The Houston Linux User Group hosts a number of meetings throughout the month. We welcome members and non-members to attend meetings to get the most out of the group. Depending on your goals, you may find some meeting more useful than others

Each meeting is noted in our calendar. To learn how you can add the calendar to yours, please follow our instructions to subscribe to the calendar for your Android or [iPhone][iphone-add-calednar] device.

User Meetings

These meetings are for general membership and non-members who are curious about Linux. Many meetings are open forums for people to congregate and network, or to seek (or provide) help with their Linux issues.

Occasionally a presenstation will be assocaited with the meeting, and when possible, the presentation will be noted in our calendar. Additionally, we have members who give impromptu talks about interesting topics or issues they have recently encountred.

If you wish to give a talk or presentation, please contact Edwin Buck and he will ensure that your talk is noted in the meeting calendar.

Social Meetings

These meetings are for members to gather and have fun networking with others. They are less structured being an open forum to make friends and contacts.

The only goal is to have fun, and do it with like minded professionals and hobbiests that share a love of Linux. People are free to come and go, and the group rarely maintans any kind of branding or notice that it's meeting. If you intend to first meet the group this way, you might have to mingle a bit to find it.

Administration Meetings

These meetings are for the internal operations of the group. They constitue the planning of other meetings, budgeting, accquisition of meetings spaces, food planning, recruitment drives, talk planning, and other aspects that have to happen, but tend to detract from a general member's enjoyment of the group.

These meetings are not open to the general public, but are open to those with a drive to donate their time and effort to making the group a great place for others.

Private Meetings

These meetings are for private consultation with a specfic person or company to assist with Linux related issues. They are generally closed to all but the person or company seeking help, and the HLUG personnel assisting them. They may be part of a consulting engagement.

Often the topics include specific details that might harm the attendees if the meeting made the topic public (like how to close a vulnerability) and the attendees adhere to strict privacy rules, which may include NDAs.
