Advocacy

Promoting Linux is what we do. As an operating system is only as useful as the utility it provides, this includes promotion of using the operating system and the associated applications for specific goals.

We believe that Linux is not just an operating system for the server room, where it already dominates as the major player in providing software infrastructure; it is also highly usable on the desktop, where the free availablibity of most offic suite software makes it an attractive competitor to any other platform.

Education

For Linux to grow, people need to learn the skills and obtain the tools to use it. While there are a pletora of means by which one can learn Linux, sometimes a bit of guidnance can help when approaching a specific topic, or in selecting which topics to start with.

The group provides weekly user meetings calendar where one can reach out to to find people who can assist or direct educational efforts. With some help, often a educational goal can be reached faster than alone. If this sounds interesting to you, please consider joining use for a user meeting or reaching us through the group's communication channels.

Support

Even when one has skill, it is always possible to get in over one's head. If you are new user seeking an installation, or an old hand encountering an issue novel issue, our group had decades of debugging and troubleshooting experience available. Our user meetings provide free support for any item that can be handled within the meeting time.

If you need more assistance, arrangements can be made for support sessions outside of the meeting times, and depending on the details, these sessions may be free or provide at a modest fee. Contracts obtained through the group allow the group to fund additional efforts, and reimburse group staff for their time.

Socialiation

Whenever you get a number of Linux loving people together, it seems that fun and friendship is never far away. If you are inclined, the group has an active social calendar with many opportunities to have fun calendar.

Over the years, many of the group members have developed long lived friendships and connections. These extend to members that have long moved out of the Houston area. If you find yourselve with a bit of extra time, drop on by and join the fun!
